Senior IT Infrastructure & Systems Administrator

About Sybilla Technologies

Sybilla Technologies designs, builds, and operates robotic optical observatories for monitoring objects in space. We specialize in end-to-end systems and software for automated data acquisition, analysis, and scheduling across networks of sensors.

Our work spans Space Situational Awareness, Space Surveillance & Tracking, Space Traffic Management, as well as stellar and planetary research, education, and commercial on-demand observations. By combining cutting-edge technology with advanced software, we enable faster, smarter, and more reliable insights from space.

About the role

We’re looking for a Senior IT Infrastructure & Systems Administrator (Azure + On-Prem) who will take ownership of our infrastructure – both cloud and onprem – and help make it more stable, visible, and predictable over time.

This is a handson role focused on keeping core services online and secure: identity, email, networking, VPN access, servers, backups, and the underlying hardware. You’ll work across Microsoft 365 and Azure, onprem virtualization and storage, and network infrastructure spanning multiple locations.

Success in this role is not about constant firefighting. It’s about reducing recurring issues, improving visibility into how systems behave, and making the environment easier to operate and recover when things go wrong. We’re looking for someone who fixes root causes, sets up monitoring that matters, and treats uptime and recovery as shared business responsibilities — not just technical checkboxes.

Your Responibilities

  1. Keeping the company online and secure
  • Ensuring high availability and security of core IT services, including network connectivity, VPNs, DNS, identity systems, email, and access to internal resources.
  • Taking ownership of uptime and service reliability – spotting issues early and preventing outages rather than reacting to them.
  • Designing and maintaining monitoring that provides actionable signals.

  1. Microsoft 365 & Azure administration
  • Operating and continuously improving the Microsoft 365 and Azure environment (identity, access, security, resource lifecycle).
  • Managing cloud resources with attention to structure, ownership, and cost hygiene.
  • Maintaining a least‑privilege access model using RBAC, Conditional Access, and MFA.
  • Handling Exchange Online mail flow, spam and anti‑phishing protections, and complex deliverability issues.

  1. Networking and remote access
  • Administering network infrastructure based on MikroTik (routing, switching, VLAN segmentation).
  • Configuring and maintaining VPN connectivity (site‑to‑site and remote access, including WireGuard).
  • Troubleshooting issues across network, identity, device, and service layers.

  1. Onprem infrastructure and virtualization
  • Maintaining Hyper‑V environments on Windows Server.
  • Administering Linux servers (Ubuntu) and containerized workloads.
  • Managing storage systems, including HA storage, QNAP platforms, iSCSI, and shared storage architectures.

  1. Backup and disaster recovery
  • Ensuring reliable backups using Veeam: retention policies, encryption, access controls, and restore testing.
  • Regular verifications that systems can be recovered, not just backed up.
  • Thinking proactively about disaster recovery scenarios and operational resilience.

  1. Hardware and physical infrastructure
  • Managing hardware lifecycle: servers, network cards, UPS, firmware updates, and diagnostics.
  • Monitoring hardware health, including Supermicro platforms and out‑of‑band access.
  • Coordinating repairs, replacements, and RMA processes.
  • Working hands‑on with server rooms and rack infrastructure when needed.

  1. Locations and environments
  • Supporting infrastructure hosted in a colocation facility in Toruń and a secondary / DR site in Zielonka / Bydgoszcz.
  • Supporting distributed and remote endpoints.

Requirements

Must-haves:

  • 3+ years of experience in infrastructure / systems administration (senior-level, real responsibility).
  • Strong networking fundamentals: VLANs, routing, DNS, VPNs, firewall thinking, certificates.
  • Solid experience with Microsoft 365 + Azure, including identity and access control.
  • Confidence in troubleshooting “cross-layer” problems (PC ↔ network ↔ identity ↔ cloud service).
  • Ability to handle on-prem realities (hardware, storage, virtualization, backups).
  • Advanced level of English to work with technical docs and communicate clearly.
  • Ability to be on-site within ~30 minutes of Bydgoszcz when needed.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Microsoft Intune / MDM experience.
  • Kubernetes experience (or strong container operations background).
  • Security mindset (hardening, audit readiness, basic SOC-style thinking).
  • Experience with HA storage, iSCSI, and multi-site DR patterns.

Terms & Benefits

  • Hybrid role with the requirement to reach Bydgoszcz offices within approximately 60 minutes when needed, and readiness to travel between office locations as required.
  • Compensation: 15,000-17,000 gross PLN/month (UoP) or 116-132 PLN/hour net (B2B), depending on experience and skills.
  • Work in a rapidly growing company within the prestigious Space industry.
  • Full-time position with flexible working hours.
  • Private medical care (LuxMed) and sports package (Multisport).
  • Structured onboarding with dedicated support during the first weeks.
